Teeth Whitening for the Long Term

No Comments 22 October 2010

If you are wanting a fabulous smile then teeth whitening will help you achieve this but you need to thinking long term as the teeth will re-stain so ensuring the smile stays as long as possible is what this article is about. These days we live in a society where having white teeth is the norm and has become more mainstream as treatments like power whitening or zoom are becoming very popular to whiten and brighten the teeth making them look very healthy. The reality is the teeth are porous and that they will re-stain so unless you do not consume anything with any staining components which is pretty much impossible then the teeth will slowly change back to their original colour over a period of time. Removal of staining is really what teeth whitening does and this tends to reveal the natural whiteness and this can make a remarkable difference to the colour after whitening as the teeth will look more creamy and whiter in colour. When we meet someone the first thing we see is the teeth so having a white smile can really enhance your appearance particularly if you are a very sociable person or have a job where you meet people. It should be the case that people judge you by the colour of the teeth but when you see someone with really white coloured teeth ask yourself do you ever think they look unsuccessful or unhealthy probably not I expect so this is why for little money the teeth can be whitened and make a real difference. If your budget does not stretch to a zoom whitening treatment by your local dentist or cosmetic dentist then look at some home kits as these do work and cost less. The outcome will not be as impactful but will life a few shades of staining from the teeth but is worth trying if your budget is tight. Sometimes for lighter staining the home kits will work very well and do require regular usage but deep stains a stronger option like Zoom is probably better and more likely to make the teeth whiter. So depending on what system of whitening you opt for ensuring regular visits to your local regular dentist is important to keep the teeth healthy and free any nasty diseases. This also keeps the teeth whiter as the build up of plague will darken the teeth. Using a tray based home kit or maybe the whitening strips is a good idea for keeping the teeth looking their best and white as possible. After the initial whitening you would only need to use these system once every 6-9 weeks for a few hours as this will remove any residual staining and refresh the whiteness. This is a bit like high performance athletes just need to top up their performance as they have reached a point of fitness and this is just like whitening as regular treatment are unlikely to be worth the cost but top ups are the key to keeping the teeth looking bright.

The Teeth Whitening Program For Long Term Benefits

There is little doubt that having a wonderful smile is not only good for your self esteem but also make you look younger and more attractive to anyone who you meet but keeping the wonderful smile is what we are discussing in this piece. Having teeth whitening will be a liberating experience as the teeth will be whiter and look fantastic but we need to think about how to keep the teeth and the gums in top health so we have created a list of essential whitening healthcare-Good Dental HygieneSeeing your dentist is probably not high on your list and the term not broken so dont fix it should not be used when it comes to seeing your dentist. Prevention is better than cure and the dentist will ensure the teeth and gums are healthy and in turn this does reduce the staining process. Avoid Acidic DrinksThe enamel wears as we get older but avoiding high acidic drinks and foods will keep this to a minimum. It is easy for us to go to the fridge and get a can of soda but think about the teeth. As the enamel erodes this allows the staining to penetrate easier and then the teeth cannot resist this colour changing process as much as stronger enamel which has less porous values. Reduce Intake of Coffee,Tea etcLiquid staining is harder to remove than most other staining elements so I am not suggesting avoiding all tea and coffee but keeping your intake down to a sensible level. For some people who work in an office try drinking a cup of water in-between your cups of coffee. Also red wine and fruit drinks like blackcurrant also fall in to this category so try drinking water, milk or even lemon flavoured cordial etc. Brush and Floss RegularlyBrushing and flossing goes without saying but I thought it was worth just ensuring this activity is done at least once per day if not twice. Heavy handed brushers should change their style as the teeth do not need brushing in same way as your kitchen floor. This heavy brushing style will lead to the gums receding and then the teeth are more prone to staining in these areas so be gentle and also ensure you change your tooth brush every few weeks as they wear and you will not notice!Regular Teeth WhiteningWhether you select the laser whitening method, trays or the multitude of home kits on the market just remember that even following the above advice the teeth will re-stain so you need a way of topping up the whiteness whether this is a twenty minute session with the laser, or a session with the trays placed in your mouth just do regularly and the teeth will stay white and bright. SummaryTeeth whitening like most things require focus and discipline but we are suggesting life changing stuff just enough to keep a balance and maintain the smile without going overboard. Good luck and hope this helped you.

Is using tooth whitener strips bad for your teeth (long term)?

2 Comments 06 March 2010

Ive heard that those strips weaken your tooth enamel.
I brush my teeth 2 times a day and take pretty good care of them.

Ive just heard you have to have strong enamel for those strips and how right after your use them your teeth are really sensitive to cold and air on them.

So, should I use them?

Btw, im 17 years old if that makes a difference.
