how much does internal bleaching cost for one tooth?

1 Comment 02 October 2010

i had a root canal done and now my one tooth is yellow.
i cannot get a crown because i just do not have the money for it. I am only considering internal bleaching because it’s the only option i have right now, i’m just very insecure because the discoloured tooth is one of my front teeth.

internal bleaching on root canal done tooth?

3 Comments 30 March 2010

ok so i asked my doctor about what i could do about my tooth discoloration (front right tooth). . i asked him abt crowns but he recommended not to go with crowns because my gums are still moving around (im 16 years old) and maybe if i get a crown after some time the gum above it can bloat up or something and will look very unpleasent. . he instead recommnded that i’d go in for internal bleaching. . because my tooth isnt fractured its still in place. . he said with internal bleaching my tooth should lighten up by 2 shades and chances of it looking like the rest of your teeth is very high. . .
i would like to if there is someone here who has done internal bleaching. . . is it safe?are the results positive?negatives?please give me all the info possible. . thanks

Internal bleaching after root canal ?

1 Comment 19 March 2010

I have had root canal on my front tooth several years ago which caused it to be discolured.

I had some internal bleaching done a few years later which had some good results at the time.

The tooth has now gone back to its darkened state now a few years later.

I have been to my dentist today who suggested to bleach it again, he has taken an impression and will drill the filling out. This time I will have to bleach the tooth myself at home using a kit he will provide me from the impression, then re-seal the tooth a few days later.

-How effective would this be bleaching it at home using a gel internally on the tooth? i thought this method was a little unusual as it is internal.

-How long is it likley to last. will i need re-treatment again after a few years?

Internal Bleaching Versus Professional Tooth Whitening

No Comments 05 March 2010

Often after a root canal treatment the Dentist will consider performing an internal bleaching. It is somewhat different and perhaps a little more aggressive than conventional tooth whitening. Mainly because it takes place within the tooth and not on the surface. What the Dentist will do is place an oxidizing agent within the tooth. This will help to remove the discoloration. There are many causes that will cause severe discoloration such as habits like smoking, diet some red wines, and even just plain old age. Even some types of fillings can be the culprit or certain medications an individual is taking. Tooth whitening presents a different process. In some ways it doesn’t seem to be quite as aggressive as the internal bleaching. Professional tooth whitening can be done in a variety of ways. A strong solution of peroxide can be applied and left for a period of time. If the Dentist is using this technique then he will use guards to protect the gums. Peroxide is not a newly found treatment. It has been used by Dentists for several years. One of many good things about having professional tooth whitening done is that several treatments can be done the same day. Also the results will most likely be more dramatic Another alternative for the Dentist to use as a whitening procedure is laser. He will put a somewhat weaker solution of peroxide on the teeth, then use a special type of laser light to cause a reaction in the peroxide. This takes a bit of time, probably about 1 to ½ hours, but the results are impressive. When having a Professional whitening procedure done through your Dentist the ultimate decision is his, but he will give you as many choices as possible. You will have much to consider. First of all you will want to know what kind of results to expect. Your Dentist will only be able to give you a general idea, as everybody’s teeth differ. Some people get better results than others. The other consideration will be the cost. Treatments differ in prices. No doubt some being more expensive than others because of what they entail. Internal bleaching may be an option that the Doctor has given you, only because he doesn’t feel that external whitening will be effective. The possibility exists that you could have this done on the one tooth, and then go with one of the other whitening treatments for the rest. The other thing you are going to want to know, is what kind of follow up treatments will be required at home, if any. There may be some type of maintenance program to follow. Don’t forget that regular brushing will help to remove a lot of stains. Prior to the Dentist treatment of whitening he will most likely want to do an intensive cleaning of your teeth. This will remove some of the surface staining. The rest of the procedure will be done with the whitening agents.
