Because, health is something people cannot control. . My GF has had 3 surgeries in past but tries to stay as healthy as possible. She still has to pay RIDICULOUSLY high insurance rates.

AND it is not fair to others who are healthy, nor is it fair to the company to have to pay extra for her. . . I understand this. That is why profiting businesses should not control this.

If the government has at least some sort of program, it can balance this out. . . Expensive, yeah, but moral. I would willingly give a charity tax of like 20 dollars a year to support this. Health insurance will not be as good and people will not be able to get their fucking teeth whitened on the insurance paycheck, but it will at least give good people with medical pasts that are not their fault at all a fair chance at fair coverage. . .

Peoples’ lives’ and wellbeing should not be controlled by business and profit margins. . . lol

Doctors work to help others therefore they get paid. . . insurance only works off of profit from fear. . . And yes it is still a very good thing now (i understand this), but I think there could be a better system. Businessmen should be selling things other than insurance IMO.

My long time dentist since I was a little girl does not do cosmetic procedures so after doing some research, I went to a dentist that seemed to be highly recommended.

I booked a consultation appointment only, and when I went in he was very kind and looked over my teeth, polished them, and then gave me an estimate for laser whitening (which was a fair price). After he left the hygenist came in and told me I needed Xrays and took those. Next he came back in and told me that because my former dentist had chosen to keep my wisdom teeth in (they came in very straight) that I would need to have them sealed because they were beginning to decay (this is true).

NOW heres where it got weird and I need your advice. My supposed free consultation cost me 200 dollars. This was because they took Xrays. Were these Xrays really necessary to get a consult on laser teeth whitening? He also estimated that sealing my wisdom teeth would cost me 195 dollars. . PER TOOTH!

I do not have dental insurance and I pay out of pocket. This is not an issue for me and I do not want any kind of payment plan etc. All I want to know is

1. Was I ripped off by being charged 200 dollars for a consultation and
2. Is 195 dollars per wisdon tooth sealant a total rip off as I suspect it is.

What would you advise me to do in this situation? Thank you again for your help.
I went back in and asked for a copy of exactly what I paid for. Here is the bill as is:

1. Initial Comprhensive Exam: 99. 00
2. Panoramic X-Ray: 120. 00
3. Oral Cancer Screening: 0
3. Patient Care: 0

Total 219. 00

Does this make more sense? or does this make it more complicated? Thank you for all who have answered.
Yeah unfortunately, I think I am agreeing with everyones answers. Thank you all for your help. I think I was overcharged and misinformed of what they actually needed to do. I think I didn’t want to believe I was being jipped because he is such a nice person and I know his family, but appearances are deceiving. The office is also in a financially well to do area and I know they kept looking at me like I had 3 heads when I kept repeating 195 dollars. . . PER TOOTH? over and over. . . I get the feeling they were not used to normal people on budgets. . . or they ignore them.

Either way I already paid my initial bill on the spot, I don’t think I am going to go in and fight it and cause a scene, but I will make sure I am more prepared in the future and don’t let anything like this happen again.

ok, i have a nice smile, but to be honest need a lot of work done, i am missing a front tooth, ( dentist pulled it out when i was younger, can’t get him to pay) since i am missing a front tooth to the right of my two front teeth, these two teeth have spaced, also the lower teeth have spaced and need whiteing as well. I had braces and teeth went together, paid this in cash, but never had enough money after this to get an implant, so now am back to square one, it really sucks. So i am going to have to need oral surgery I think, orthodontist, and general dentistry. PLEASE HELP, i really do want to get this fixed, and am saving right now, but think insurance might be the best bet. I am a mechanical engineer without a job. Possibly if i get a job, the job might offer insurance. . . . . Please Help!!!!!!
