Teeth Whitening – Consider Doing it at Home

No Comments 09 March 2010

We all want a beautiful smile with sparkling white teeth. Having a beautiful smile makes us feel attractive, sexy, successful and happy. A beautiful smile with sparkling white teeth projects a positive image for businessmen, students, teachers and professionals alike. If you have teeth that are less white than you’d prefer, now you can have those whitened teeth that you have always wanted. Tooth whitening is relatively easy and doesn’t have to cost a fortune and you can accomplish your teeth whitening at home. However, before you buy and use any teeth whitening products do the research and understand the advantages and disadvantages of all the teeth whitening products available. It is important to get the right information before opting for any kind of teeth whitening program. You don’t have to have your teeth whitened professionally to attain acceptable results; teeth whitening at home is easy and effective. Although relatively easy, don’t believe all the hype that you read on the internet. Whitening teeth at home is a serious step and you should do it right. It’s important to use the products correctly, so you don’t cause pain or damage. And once you’ve whitened your teeth, you need to take the proper steps to maintain that beautiful white smile. Important aspects of the teeth whitening process: You should have your teeth checked by a professional before you begin whitening your teeth at home. Your mouth should be free of decay, gum disease and recession. It’s also important to be conscious of teeth and gum sensitivity. You should have reasonable expectations regarding the whitening results that can be achieved, whether it’s accomplished at home or by a professional. All too often people have unreasonable expectations and push to obtain unnatural looking results. Your friends and family may not tell you that you went too far. The products and/or process that you choose should have the proper ingredients to provide proven desired results without excess sensitivity, irritation or damage. In case you don’t know yet, peroxide is a volatile substance that has very high bleaching properties. When it comes in contact with the teeth, it effectively removes colors other than white, unleashing the white layer within. When purchasing peroxide, make sure you choose one that is safe to use. Some peroxide products are so dense that they can cause skin and gum damage. Many dentists are choosing to forego in-office laser or light activated whitening systems in favor of take-home whitening kits with custom-fitted mouth trays. Tray whitening kits are generally less expensive than in-office procedures and you or your dentist may choose the strength of the whitening solution used, as well as maintain control over results and undesirable side-effects. The quality and design of mouth trays are key differences among tray whitening kits, as well as the intensity of the solution used. There are valuable user evaluations and teeth whitening product reviews at Amazon. com and Drugstore. com to help with your research. While individuals can’t scientifically measure the whiteness of their teeth, people certainly have the ability to evaluate their own results and measure the level of discomfort or sensitivity when using various products. Make sure you are buying whitening products from a legitimate company, such as a reputable local or online store.

5 Factors to Consider When Choosing a Teeth Whitening Method

No Comments 05 March 2010

Once you’ve decided that you want to undergo teeth whitening treatment you’re left to choose a particular whitening method. There are a variety of methods available. Some are drastically better than others in performance, but are costly. Others are affordable but have been known to cause tooth sensitivity. This article is going to address the five most important factors to consider when choosing which teeth whitening method is best for you. 1.        Cost – This is probably the most critical factor, if not most important. The price of whitening treatments ranges from a one dollar pack of whitening gum (which doesn’t do much whitening) to a $1,000 professional whitening session (which can have your teeth glowing like the moon). There are dozens of options in between and finding the one that is an acceptable price for you should be the goal. Weighing the cost against the other 4 factors is also important to be sure that the product will work and isn’t just the least expensive. 2.        Effectiveness – How well the product works is just as important as how much it costs. There’s no sense in searching for a bargain on a treatment that doesn’t work. Finding a happy medium between the best price and most effective product is your best bet. Some treatments will quickly whiten your teeth 4 or 5 shades (or more). Those are also the most expensive methods. If that type of treatment is in your budget, then by all means go for it. But for many people, successful teeth whitening relies on finding a product that works well and is affordable. 3.        Time – You don’t want to have to re-whiten your teeth every month or even every couple months. Be careful of treatments that require you to continuously apply them. It’s not healthy for your teeth or your wallet. The ideal treatment should whiten your teeth a few shades and keep them that way (provided you continue to take care of them properly) for 6-8 months at least. 4.        Intrusion – How uncomfortable is the treatment? Are you able to multitask or do you have to sit still? Some professional methods require you to sit in a dentist’s chair for up to an hour at a time for a few appointments. That’s fine if you’d rather have the treatment be applied by a dentist. Many home methods require you to wear a mouthpiece around the house which can be bothersome, but also lets you do the dishes or watch TV while whitening. There is no right or wrong answer. Only personal preference. 5.        Risk – This factor is last not because it’s least important, but because most methods are considered safe. While some home remedies can damage your teeth, buying a whitening product from a reputable brand is usually a safe choice. Similarly, having your dentist whiten your teeth can put your mind at ease. Many methods do cause some sensitivity, but usually it’s nothing to worry about. Prolonged discomfort is uncommon and should be checked out by a dentist. Taking these five factors into consideration before you decide on a method can save you a lot of time and money. Read reviews of the product before you buy and beware of the “too-good-to-be-true” products. What works for someone else might not be what’s best for you, so use these five factors to decide exactly what type of product you’re looking for, and then go from there.

At Home Teeth Whitening Product – 3 Things You Should Consider First

No Comments 05 March 2010

The influx of different types of at home teeth whitening products in the market have revolutionized how we think about white teeth. Image is everything. We all want to look our best all the times whenever we can, and beautiful smile is always a plus. It used to be that going to the dentist for simple procedures like cleaning teeth was out of the question for many people. Not anymore, you don’t need a dentist to get your teeth cleaned or whitened, for any other dental procedures however, you need your dentist. When we see people on television with bright smiles we marveled at their teeth and wished we could afford to whiten our discolored teeth to look like theirs. There is no more wishful thinking; it’s now possible for anybody with $50 to afford at home teeth whitening product to make them look like a celebrity. But before you consider any whitening product, you should take these 3 points into account:  1. Shade of White Levels: Many whitening products claim to have up to 8 or higher shade of white. Some claim that their products can produce 2 shades of white in just 24 hours. These claims may or may not be true, but don’t take their word for it. Do your own research, read reviews about different brands before you decide. What you should be looking for is whether the said product can produce professional dental quality result within few days, and how easy it is to administer. 2. Price: The whole idea of a home procedure is to save money. So does your preferred whitener do that for you? Can you get desired shade of white, the type you can expect from your dentist without paying professional dental price equivalent? If your answer is yes, and you can afford that product price you should be okay. 3. Safety: Is the whitener safe? Is it overly sensitive, and does it irritate your gum? These are the things you must consider, because if the product works, and is inexpensive but not comfortable for you to use, it may not be the right whitening gel, strip or stray for you. Another area of concern should be the type of active ingredient in the product, are they safe, FDA approved etc? They do not have to be FDA approved to be safe, but at least check with the FDA website to make sure there are no recalls or consumer complaints about the teeth whitener.  If you can save money, get the desired shade of white without jeopardizing your safety, you may have the right at home teeth whitening product.

Choices To Consider With A Teeth Whitening Kit

No Comments 03 March 2010

If you have decided to brighten your smile with a teeth whitening kit that you can use at home, there are a few things you should know before making a decision as to which kit is the best for your individual needs. First, not all kits are created equal either in effectiveness or ease of use. It pays to shop around to find the system that will be easiest for you to use, the most effective in achieving your desired result, and will fit best into your budget.
How easy are These Kits to Use?
The short answer to this question is, very easy in most cases. There are a couple of options in kits that are completed within your home. The first is a brush on system that allows the user to paint his teeth with the whitening gel. These kits tend to be the least expensive, but may be more difficult to use and not as effective. Still, if you are just looking into the whitening process and want to see results with minimum investment, this may be a good system for you to try.
Another kit for home use is one that applies strips coated with the whitening gel directly to your teeth. These strips are usually used once a day, and are left on the teeth for at least 30 minutes at a time. The good news about this type of system is that it is very easy to use, and the results are generally very good. The disadvantage to this type of teeth whitening kit is generally the cost, since it can run quite a bit higher than the gel and brush technique. For a home whitening kit, you are most likely to see your desired results with this type of system.
How Safe are these Kits?
For the most part, these kits are very safe to use, and studies show very little negative side effects. The two potential problems with the kits are an increased sensitivity with the teeth, and irritation of the gum area. Both of these side effects tend to be mild, and go away a few days after stopping the treatments. To ensure the safety of the kit that you select, you can talk to your dentist and check to see that your selected kit has been approved by the American Dental Association. There are a handful of brands on store shelves that do sport the ADA seal of approval.
These kits can be a convenient and inexpensive way to a brighter smile and whiter teeth. If you are considering a teeth whitening kit, talk to your dentist about the best choice in teeth whitening for you.

Would you consider teeth bleaching at a spa or hair salon?

2 Comments 27 February 2010

Would this be a setting where you would consider having ‘instant’ teeth bleaching rather than at a detist’s office.
Cost wise it would be $100, less expensive than at a dental office. I am considering this as new business option, it is now legal to do this type of bleaching at salons (I am a dental proffessional however) I am intrested to see if people think this is something they would do? Setting this up would cost approx $5000 so trying a little market research! Opinions appreciated.
